For many, many months before designing our own kitchen, I scoured design magazine, books and blogs looking for inspiration. I knew I wanted a light, bright kitchen with a window and an island. Lots of storage and space for organization was also high on my list. For aesthetics, I was drawn to the pictures below. I apologize that I don't have photo credit for all of these images.
I love the white cabinets and counters coupled with the warm wood tone of the floor and rear shelves. I also like that the upper cabinets are open with glass doors.
Nice clean lines. Love the industrial-looking pendant lights and the touches of stainless steel.
This kitchen is really beautiful with its curved island. So pretty.
Perfection!
Those large windows are breath-taking. I bet their backyard is spectacular too. I think the moulding in the ceiling is great and the grey paint really compliments the marble counters.
The pendant lights really make this kitchen cool, along with the marble tile backsplash.
Via Victoria Hagan. Swoon! The beadboard ceiling is so fresh and clean looking.

Shiney white subway tile and beautiful dark hardwood floors, me likey!
via Paul Ryan?? This kitchen really appeals to me, it's so warm and inviting with the contrast of light and dark. And I love dogs. Another view below.
via Tim Clark. The wood on that island is sleek and gorgeous.

This kitchen is awesome on its own, but fresh cut flowers are always lovely in any kitchen.
I'm loving that fireplace.

via Centsational Girl. And, she painted it herself! Very impressive.
Image via Centsational Girl. I loved Centsational Girl's large kitchen garden window so much that I emailed it to our builder to see if something similar could be done with our kitchen window. He said we could, but unfortunately we'd already drawn the plans and started construction, so it would've required redrawing the plans and another inspection and more time, so we decided to do without:(
As I collected all of these images, I realized that most of the kitchens I admired had white cabinets, carerra marble counters, white subway tile, chrome pendant lights, a farmhouse sink, and hardwood floors, so that is what we planned for our kitchen. I'm so excited to see the finished result! (Our builder says our move in date is July 10!) I'm dreaming of the meals that our family and friends will share in this space and the memories of future Thanksgivings, Christmases, Sunday brunches, and even the morning coffee and lunches to be prepared for kids' lunchboxes!
